CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Summer is the perfect time to catch up and get ahead! At PRIDE Learning Center we offer a fantastic summer program to give students a GIANT boost in their weakest areas. Our summer program is the most popular program of the year! PRIDE'S teachers are all credentialed and certified in Orton-Gillingham methodology.

This intensive one-on-one reading and writing program utilizes our multi-sensory, phonemic, Orton-Gillingham approach that we at PRIDE Learning Center are experts at. This program helps students in a way that a regular summer school program would not. Students progress one entire reading level in 4-5 weeks!

Students attend Monday - Friday from 9:00am - 12:00pm or 12:30 - 3:30pm.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The faculty consists of renowned lecturers, veterans in International Mathematical Olympiads (IMO) and Olympiad coaches, who have successful careers in math, science, and technology, with many years of classroom teaching experiences. Among them are: Dr. Kevin Wang, founder of Areteem and Math Zoom, former IMO China Team member, former math faculty at UC Irvine and UCLA; Dr. Harold B. Reiter, math professor at UNCC, who is very well known and well respected in math education and math competitions. The camp curriculum will cover some or all of the following topics: For Math: Modular arithmetic, Numbers and their digits & divisors, Basic and advanced counting strategies, Combinatorics, Polynomials and their coefficients & zeros, Algebraic inequalities and other techniques, Special angles and regular polygons, Centers of triangles, Collinearity and concurrency, Trigonometry, Vector and Coordinates.

Various problem solving techniques will be introduced, as well as Math contest strategies. For Science: Scientific research methodologies, principles in mechanics, electricity and magnetism, optics, thermodynamics, etc., and real world applications such as roller coaster theory (you can learn to design your own roller coaster and build it at the camp!). For English as Second Language (ESL) students, there are also topics related to American culture and literature.

OTHER CAMP INFO: The Project Endeavor Experience takes students and faculty from around the globe and works with each participant to hone their skills and talents. Each participant will be assigned a team and each team will work with a team leader to design a project or perform a routine or create a masterpiece that will be shown to members of that given field at a final banquet. The team that is elected by members of that profession will be honored at the event and will be able to meet with the judges. As a part of the Project Endeavor experience, each team will base their project and the competition on behalf of a local charitable organization. The winning team will receive a donation on its behalf from Project Endeavor to the selected organization.

CAMP FACILITIES: Students in the overnight camps will be housed in university undergraduate housing, eat in undergraduate cafeterias and have access to university recreational facilities. Commuter students are also welcome at the overnight camps.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: An advanced class for high achieving high school students interested in pursuing a career in medicine or related fields, such as pharmacy, nursing, biomedical research or drug development. Through engaging lectures and hands-on laboratory classes, students learn about normal molecular and cellular biology from PhD-level instructors, and then learn how these normal processes are distorted to cause the development of cancer. A similar style is used to teach Molecular Neuroscience, Molecular Immunology and Molecular Biology of Development and Aging. To conclude the workshop, students use what they have learned to create an original research project on a gene of their choice. Free time includes planned activities such as sports and field trips.

Camp Directors: Ryan G. Holzer, M.S., PhD - Ryan has 17 years of medical research experience, working on cancer and type 2 diabetes. He has a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the University of California, San Diego and he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Mayo Clinic.

Ha B. Nguyen, PharmD - Ha is a professional pharmacist who also has laboratory experience working on antibacterial immunology. She has a B.S. in Biology from the University of California, San Diego and a PharmD from Midwestern University.

Summer 2019 Molecular Biology of Cancer, Molecular Neuroscience, Molecular Immunology and Molecular Biology of Development and Aging science camps will be held at the University of California, Berkeley (6/2-6/15, 6/16-6/29), and University of California, San Diego (7/7-7/20).

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: From the first camp that we ever held, our goal was to allow your children to explore the many wonders of technology, giving them the opportunity to explore technologies that for some were unimaginable. In our camps we offer topics in 2D game development, 3D game development, web design, electronics, 3D character design, and other topics on varying platforms taught by our knowledgeable instructors. Your child will be exposed to a large range of topics over the course of the week.

CAMP FACILITIES: This is a day and residential camp for interested students.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Levels: There will be four levels at the camp: Programming, USACO Bronze, USACO Silver, and USACO Gold. During the camp, adjustments can be made to the level (depending on space availability) if faculty and student agree that a different level would be more beneficial to the student. Maximum capacity for each class is 16. Our small class size lets us have different learner groups in the same class (ex. beginner, inter, advanced). Each group may different topics and problems based on their level.

We would like to maximize student potential so that we don't limit student learning with lecturing-to-all style teaching. In this way, students can proceed on their own paces. Curriculum: The students will be equipped with necessary background in lectures and trained with different types of problems to master various problem solving techniques.

The classes are problem solving-based and the curriculum is aligned with USA Computing Olympiad (USACO). Lectures are given by A* Faculty and other instructors who have participation and/or training experience in national/internationals Olympiads such as USACO and International Olympiads in Informatics.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Dig in to summer and explore nature, ecology, art and conservation in this super fun day camp inspired by the exhibition Earth Matters. Eat mud pie, learn about plants and animals at the UCLA Mildred Mathias Botanical Garden, play with clay, go on scavenger hunt adventures, wear mud, create art from nature and experiment with movement and sound. BACKSTAGE is an exciting counselor-in-training program for teenagers. CAMP LIFE Many children regard Stage Door Conservatory a home away from home because we focus on creating a sense of community for everyone who join us. During our first week together, as in all subsequently weeks, we will focus on developing a strong sense of esprit d-corps among our campers ... encouraging the creation of new bonds between the children who are becoming newly acquainted as members of our ensemble, as well as the renewal of old bond among children who have spent prior summers together as members of our camp. Both ON BROADWAY and TEENS ON STAGE include many alumni who participate in our program year after year. AN ENSEMBLE and CONSERVATORY PHILOSOPHY

Both ON BROADWAY and TEENS ON STAGE are ensemble-based programs. During our first weeks together, we will encourage our young actors to collaborate in the creative process together and to appreciate and support one another as persons and performers. We will emphasize the unique importance of each child who is a part of our production, whether they are performing in a lead role or as a member of our ensemble. Because we are a conservatory, in addition to rehearsing and performing in a high caliber production, children participate in every aspect of our production, from costuming, to set-design, to props development.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: YEA Camp is a unique and inspiring leadership summer camp for youth 12-17 who care about community service, activism and social justice. A week-long sleep-away program in a beautiful camp location, YEA is designed to be a fun and transformative experience that builds life-long friendships between youth with similar interests. Our program also provides a meaningful opportunity for campers to learn more about some of the issues facing our planet and to get inspired and empowered to take action on those issues.

Campers choose an issue of importance to them (for example, some have chosen climate change, racism, homophobia, homelessness, animal rights) and at YEA they build the knowledge, skills, confidence, and community to take action on that issue long after camp is over. 1. Camp Challenge Four-Week JROTC Leadership Development Program.

This camp is the only credit-producing Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) summer leadership course west of the Mississippi. The course is open to both male and female high school students (entering Grades 9 through 12.) The course consists of a combination of classroom work combined with adventure training activities and will reward successful participants with 180 hours of Leadership Education and Training (LET) Credit.

During the course, participants will develop self-confidence as leaders and as active team members as well as enhance his/her Core Values; Honor, Integrity, Responsibility, Loyalty, and Selfless Service. Additionally, this course is designed to add “Leadership” to Resumes and College Applications.

2. Camp Challenge Two-Week High School Leadership Education and Training.

This two-week leadership camp is designed for both male and female students (entering Grades 9 through 12) who are unable to attend the four-week JROTC Course but who are still interested in achieving a leadership training experience. Camper will choose one of the following electives for their focus: Leadership, Aviation,Computer Science, or ESOL.

3. Camp Challenge Two-Week Middle School Leadership Development Programs (LDP), Basic and Advanced.

LDP Basic is an introduction to leadership for students interested in exploring potential and enhancing existing skills while learning the fundamentals of citizenship. Campers gain invaluable life skills through fun activities and adventure based challenges that reinforce teamwork, accountability, discipline, and respect.

LDP Advanced can be taken after completion of LDP Basic and offers an advanced curriculum in leadership combined with an introduction to subjects that will help prepare campers for high school. This course focuses on the core values of responsibility , loyalty, and selfless service.

She came to us after working at Cornell University, Stanford University, and most recently the University of California, Berkeley. At Girls Leadership we want you to be true-to-you. Every day starts with community games. Our theatre-based workshops focus on developing personal and societal leadership, such as how to ask for what you need. In these sessions girls practice new tools for speaking up for themselves and for others.

We also create beautiful art projects, stay active outside, and always have a spirit theme for the day. These activities are designed to encourage girls to embrace who they are, reflect on what they believe, and give them an opportunity to express themselves creatively.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: YEA is a unique and inspiring leadership summer camp for youth 12-17 who care about community service, activism and social justice. This week-long sleep-away program is designed to be a fun and transforming experience that builds life-long friendships between youth with similar interests. YEA Camp New York will have two concurrent sessions! One session for teens with a variety of causes, and for the first time ever, a separate session for teens interested in animal activism (and what better location than a Farm Animal Sanctuary!).

Our program also provides a meaningful opportunity for campers to learn more about some of the issues facing our planet and to get inspired and empowered to take action on those issues. Campers choose an issue of importance to them (for example, some have chosen climate change, racism, homophobia, homelessness, animal rights) and at YEA they build the knowledge, skills, confidence, and community to take action on that issue long after camp is over. Youth who have participated in our programs report that the camp was one of the most fun, rewarding and life-changing experiences they have had, and, with YEA's community support, have gone on to start school clubs, plan fundraisers for nonprofits, organize community clean-ups, and attend hearings to comment about important community issues.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The seed of Sessions Songwriting and Music sprung to life in 2007 when its founder, Lauren Bruns, was discussing with a good friend and mother of two that there was a gaping hole in many of the musical programs offered in Los Angeles. Not one school was offering a songwriting component in which kids could express themselves through words and music simultaneously.

Lauren knew firsthand how songwriting benefited her life as a young adult and set out on a mission to create an easy-to-follow curriculum that inspired kids of all musical levels to create and express themselves through original lyrics and music. Our summer camps are led by real musicians who encourage kids to be creative while learning and having fun.

Sessions teachers are graduates of USC, Berklee and other performing arts programs.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Active Learning Services, Ltd operates enrichment programs designed to stimulate creative thinking, improve thinking, logic and memory skills and give children "thinking alternatives" to sports camps and other summer programs. These tracks are campers' concentration for each session. All instruction takes place in small group lessons and is led by experienced and enthusiastic female musicians, producers, artists, and teachers.

MEALS
Food, glorious food! All meals are delicious and included. Breakfast is typically served between 7:00–8:00 am; lunch is around 12:00 pm; and dinner is usually around 6:00 pm. This is subject to change, so please keep your ears perked throughout the day for announcements to make sure you don’t miss a meal. We offer both vegan and omnivore options and healthy snacks are available throughout the day.

SPECIAL GUEST ARTIST PERFORMANCES
Every session, a different band plays a live set for the girls and then sticks around for an intimate Q&A. In our end of program survey this was a major highlight for the girls. They learned about different genres of music and had a fun time listening to the bands and getting to engage in meaningful discussions with the visiting artists.

FINAL SHOWCASE
At the end of the session, all campers show off their original work at the Final Showcase for the whole camp community!

Girls participate in new and traditional Girl Scouts activities while making new friends, developing self-esteem and making lasting memories. Introducing new and exciting activities this summer such as a brand new gaga court, low ropes and team building activities plus kids kitchen which gives each girl the opportunity to prepare a fun and different snack each week. The themes for each week provide additional activities and enjoyment for the campers. All day camps include daily snacks, a camp souvenir, any badges earned, and a 4X6 camp group photo. Camp hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. We also have before and after care beginning at 7:00am and ending at 6:00pm. All sessions serve grade K-6. Let your creativity shine! Explore all the ways you can express yourself through art. We will be learning about painting, tie dying, drawing, and more. Campers will work with a visiting artist on their masterpieces. On Friday the Camp Mariposa Gallery will be open for parents to see their child’s artwork. Brownies will earn their Painter badge, Juniors will earn their Drawing badge, and Cadettes will complete steps 3, 4, and 5 of their Book Artist badge.

Fashion Forward

It is Fashion Week at Camp Mariposa! Campers will learn the basics of fashion design, sewing, and jewelry making as they create their own haute couture. Girls will meet a fashion industry professional and show off their designs at a special Friday fashion show. Brownies will earn their Inventor badge, Juniors will earn their Product Designer badge, and Cadettes will earn steps 1, 2, 4, and 5 of their Entrepreneur badge.

Let’s journey back in time to when Laura Ingalls Wilder was a young girl. Campers will learn all about life on the prairie through hands on activities like making butter, sewing, and playing games from the past. Girls will also learn about their local government while we get ready to celebrate Independence Day. Friday will feature a special country fair for all campers! Brownies will earn their Celebrating Community badge, Juniors will earn their Citizen badge, and Cadettes will earn their Finding Common Ground badge. Girls entering the 4 grade and up are invited to join us for an extended day at camp that includes dinner, square dancing, and an old fashion campfire.

Literally Fun

Choose your own adventure and tell your story! We will dive into the wide world of our imaginations, exploring our favorite books, and writing our own stories. Girls will learn all about different ways to tell their story, from comic books to short stories. We will even be joined by a special guest author! Brownies will earn their My Family Story badge, Juniors will earn their Scribe badge, and Cadettes will earn their Comic Artist badge.

S.T.E.A.M Power! (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math)

Making a miniature robot, launching film canister rockets, and mixing up a batch of slime are just a few of the fun things we have planned for this week of scientific discovery. STEAM will come alive as we explore all of these subjects through hands on experiments and demonstrations. Brownies will learn all about bubbles, slime, and static electricity while they also earn their Home Scientist badge. Juniors and Cadettes will design their own video games while earning the Videogame Designer patch. Full STEAM ahead!

Welcome to the Jungle! This week of camp is all about our furry, scaly, and slimy friends who call the jungle home. Campers will learn about animals and ecosystems while brushing up on the outdoor skills they need to visit our furry friends in their natural habitats. Can you discover who stole the cookies from the cookie jar? Sharpen your detective skills as we learn about the science behind forensics on our quest to unravel the mystery of the missing cookies! CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The students build and create a different robot each week with a take- homekit! It is a fun and exciting way to learn STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) through this hands-on class. Students will build projects from a walking puppy to a T-Rex and more.

YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: We offer classes throughout the year for children ages 6-12 years old. We concentrate in using robotics kits to teach STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education. Students get hands on building experience while enjoying learning.

Students form multidisciplinary teams that work together under industry mentorship to create cool, compelling and unexpected SHORT-FORM CONTENT. All students participate in our master class series on Wednesdays and Collaboration Labs on Fridays.
