CAMP FACILITIES: The 443-acre property boasts beautiful wilderness, an 80-acre private and pristine lake, a mountaintop (Putnam Mountain), miles of mountain streams, an historic iron smelting furnace, and complete camp facilities. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Campers are grouped by similar age and discover their strengths and unique voices as we support them through the transition to adulthood. Little Notch connects girls of diverse backgrounds with each other, positive mentors, and the land. We provide opportunities to develop responsibility, resourcefulness, wellness, creativity, and teamwork skills. Activities include swimming, canoeing, sailing, team building, ropes course, yoga, creek walks, wildlife observation, hiking, outdoor cooking, arts and crafts, music, overnight camp-outs, and so much more!

All of our activities are opportunities for campers to practice living in harmony with nature, each other, and themselves. Guided by their counselors, campers choose from a wide variety of group-planned activities, which allow for skill development and personal challenge in a safe and fun environment. Unless noted, all campers are eligible to participate in these activities, though not all activities are offered every day. Camp activities include swimming, canoeing, kayaking, sailing*, hiking, cookouts, land stewardship, campfires, creek-walking, tie-dyeing, drawing, beading, singing, ropes course, journaling, meditation, overnight camp-outs...and more.

We strive to bring together a diverse staff. They are selected for their strong leadership, problem solving skills, love of working with children, ability to model our mission, and a passion for the outdoors. All applicants are thoroughly screened and participate in comprehensive pre-camp training and orientation. The ratio of counselors to campers is one counselor to every six campers ages 7 and 8, and one counselor to every eight campers age 9 and above. All Camp Little Notch staff are certified in first aid. Waterfront and boating staff are certified lifeguards and ropes course staff are certified in belay. A registered nurse, or other licensed medical professional, oversees the health and safety of campers and staff on site.

OTHER CAMP INFO: Campers start their morning at 7:30 am giving them time to dress and any personal care before going to the dining hall to enjoy breakfast. At all meals, the campers, staff and volunteers work together to set the table, serve the food family style, and end the meal by cleaning and putting away the dishes. After breakfast, "kapers" are next. Kapers are community responsibilities throughout the camp. The campers then enjoy many fun-filled, camper-planned activities. The campers enjoy staying busy throughout the morning with programs such as hiking, boating, swimming, games, and arts & crafts. Lunch is at 12:30 pm, followed by a busy afternoon of more activities and "me-time" (personal time) before dinner at 6:00 pm. The girls then go to "Singing Logs" to enjoy learning new songs while building fond memories with friends and counselors. Each day ends with evening program time and campfires before bedtime at 9:00 pm.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Active Learning Services, Ltd operates enrichment programs designed to stimulate creative thinking, improve thinking, logic and memory skills and give children "thinking alternatives" to sports camps and other summer programs. Our programs include chess programs and camps thru USA Chess, Our Gamebuilder Video Game Creation Programs and our Active Learning Computer Enrichment Programs.

Our staff is, comprised of the best children's chess instructors in North America! The USA Chess camps are uniquely qualified to cater to the needs of the advanced scholastic player as well as the true beginner. USA Chess hit its first milestone in the summer of 2000 producing the largest chess camp ever held in the United States, with more than 250 students enrolled. Instructor: ERIC LAU is an alumnus of NYU's prestigious Graduate Film Program. He has worked in the film industry for 34 years. His films, Nightwatchman and Ragged Edge, won the Best Narrative Film Award in the 1981 and 1984 Hong Kong International Film Festivals as well as Best Production, Best Editing, and Best Cinematography Awards in the 1984 First Run.

Lau has been a Director / Producer / Cinematographer for many commercials and feature films. In 2007, he directed and produced Elevator Weekend which won the Official Selection category for both the Staten Island Film Festival and Long Island International Film Festival. He has produced and directed international TV commercials for Snapple, Toyota, China Unicom, and Blue Man Group among others, and garnered numerous awards including the Telly Award and the Gold and Silver Awards for the Taiwanese Annual TV Advertisement Awards.

YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: Filmmaking Afterschool Program
Solar’s afterschool program offers children ages 13-18 enormous fun and a great learning experience. Kids will work in teams to learn how to write, shoot, edit, and direct films. We offer a hands-on filmmaking workshop, promoting storytelling in a fun, textbook-free environment.

Our philosophy is “they teach, we inspire.” The kids will be using professional filmmaking equipment while learning teamwork, expressing their thoughts, and developing their voice. Our experienced teachers will make sure students walk away from the program has had a ton of fun and laughs, having gained valuable experience, and with a complete short film created through their own artistic vision.

CAMP FACILITIES: The Queens College is a beautiful landscaped 79-acre campus with out-door and in-door tennis courts and playing fields for soccer, softball and lacrosse. The Fitzgerald Gym is 40,000+ sq ft. basketball and volleyball courts and an 25 yard length pool.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: EDUCATION AND SPORTS PROGRAM: ages 5 -14 This program provides enrichment for youngsters who wish to develop talents and interests outside their regular schools. Faculty members have been selected for their ability to communicate the joy of learning to young students and to promote invention, creativity, and self-expression. All indoor classes are in air-conditioned classrooms. For the 5 & 6 year old we offer Kindergarten Academy or First Grade Academy which has small groups supervised by caring counselors. This program is combined with a half day of Sports activities, taught by experienced instructors who encourage the love of physical fitness, sports and good sportsmanship.

NEW QC Sports Club: Ages 9-14
Queens College facilities are among the best in the City. The spacious Fitzgerald Gym houses an Olympic-standard pool and basketball courts. Outdoor facilities include tennis courts, softball fields and soccer fields. Children ages 9 to 14 can choose a major/minor program that allows them to experience a number of different sports.

THEATER PRODUCTION: ages 9-14
Do you enjoy acting? Do you like to dance? Are you artistic—can you create scenery and costumes? Or would you rather go behind the scenes and become a stage manager? This program will teach campers the many different aspects to creating a successful musical play. The Theater Production will stimulate your child’s imagination while equipping them with valuable traits such as self-esteem and confidence. Join the fun as we put together a musical for parents and peers to see! Past musicals have included The Little Mermaid, Jungle Book, Oliver, Mary Poppins, and others!

LITTLE THEATER: ages 5 - 8
We will work on our dancing, singing and acting in the mornings then go have fun in the gym and fields in the afternoon along with instructional swim time. This year we're looking forward a production of Lion King and 101 Dalmatians. It's adorable!

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Counselor-in-Training Leadership Program for teenagers 15 and 16 focus on developing strong leaders. It helps prepare young adults for the next phases in their lives - college and the workplace. Gain job skills through training, discussion, observation & practical experiences. 8, 6 or 4 weeks programs. 8 week fee $2600.

YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: SPRING BREAK Sports Clinics: ages 6 to 13. April 10 to April 14, 9 to 3 $295. Children will concentrate on one specific sport in the morning and then practice with the Strength, Speed and Agility Team in the afternoon to pull it all together for a fun week. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Our nurturing staff, typically current and former Green Ivy teachers along with returning camp staff, provide a caring and supportive environment and create a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere to facilitate connection and friendship. We use a maximum ratio of 5 children to 1 staff member. In the early weeks of camp, we use smaller ratios to support optimal health and safety practices and to nurture campers as they adjust to a new experience. Children are in groups of 5-10 campers and generally grouped by age.

During camp your child will connect with peers and with nature, gain personal and social confidence, and make friends. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Neglia Ballet's "Storytime Explorers" is a creative arts summer camp (ages 5-8) where children are the story keepers and their imagination the storyteller. Our amazing and talented staff create a safe, fun and nurturing environment for children to apply their imaginations. Over the course of a week children will read classic books, create costumes, scenery and dances allowing them to retell a story, together, in their own way. At the end of a week, parents will be invited to a special performance and reception to watch their child's creativity come to life.

Camp SAY was established with one goal in mind – to provide children who stutter with a highly immersive and accepting summer camp experience that builds self-confidence and helps children develop the vital communication skills they need to fully express themselves without fear, bullying or ridicule.

Complementing our wide range of exciting traditional camp activities, Camp SAY provides each child with unique experiences that challenge them in a safe way, creating a strong sense of achievement and helping them confidently navigate the unique issues that children who stutter face in the everyday world.

STAFF
The staff is dedicated to creating a safe and accepting environment where every child can find their beautiful and unique voice. Approximately 80% of children return to camp. Parents and campers tell us it’s our staff and unique approach that consistently exceed expectations, making Camp SAY such a rewarding and transformative experience.

We provide an excellent Staff-to-Camper Ratio: With Camp’s leadership team, camp counselors, specialized activities staff and more, our staff-to-camper ratio is 1 staff member for every 2-3 campers. In addition, each bunk is staffed at night with at least 2 counselors for an average of 6-10 campers.

Counselors complete a comprehensive training program to support the social, emotional and physical needs of all our campers. Staff development includes leadership training and extensive information about stuttering, camper health and safety, camp philosophy, policies and procedures and much more. Additionally, Specialized Activities Staff is carefully selected based on their skills and expertise.

Traveling to Camp SAY: Campers come from all around the country and abroad. We work closely with families to make each child’s trip to Camp SAY as safe and enjoyable as possible. We schedule a chaperoned flight from the southeast to New York City. Children taking individual flights are welcomed at the gate by camp staff. Upon arrival at the airport, camp staff helps navigate baggage claim, arrange check-in for return flights, and board campers on the bus for a fun trip to Camp SAY.

YMCA Camp Weona offers both traditional and high adventure activities. Horseback riding through the forest, kayaking under the blue sky, making new friends, singing by the campfire, jumping into the refreshing pool, learning how to set up a campsite, fishing at the lake; each day is full of adventure. YMCA Camp Weona serves children 7 to 17 years old with exciting summer camp options for one, or two or more week stays. CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Building on the tradition of “super” leadership, the YMCA believes in growing our future leaders as well as enhancing our teen population’s skill base. Leaders in Training (LIT) is geared toward teens who are ready to test their leadership skills while working with younger campers. All LITs must demonstrate the YMCA’s core values, have a service mentality, and strong desire to learn and grow leadership skills. CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: At YMCA Camp Weona, we believe that every child should have the chance to experience camp. The YMCA Strong Kids Campaign provides financial assistance to families within our community who are in need of financial support and may not have the ability to pay the full fee. Financial assistance is determined based on a thorough review of an application and a personal interview with the applicant. Assistance will be granted on the basis of financial need resulting from low income, emergency expenses or other circumstances that inhibit an individual’s ability to pay a prescribed fee. As part of our mission, we teach campers responsibility with an opportunity to Earn Their Way to Camp. Campers may choose to pay for part or all of their camp fees through the annual YMCA Camp Candy Sale which runs from January through July.

Groups of 8-12 campers of similar gender and age attend daily activities together as a cabin with their leaders. The intention is to foster a “family-like” atmosphere within the group. Menu - Our back-to-basics menu is prepared each day in the dining hall. The YMCA offers items that children enjoy in their daily life that help sustain the additional energy needed during long days at camp. Our food service staff prides themselves on the fact that there are no trans fats in our meals. Special consideration is given for children who have allergies or prefer a vegetarian option.

Cabin/Bunk Mates - Campers may request a bunk mate within one school grade of each other, are of the same gender, and are registered for the same program. A bunk mate request is included in the parent pack and must be returned three weeks prior to attendance. Requests made after the three-week deadline may not be honored. In order to promote inclusion within each cabin, only one bunk mate request per child will be honored. (Bunk mates must be reciprocal – ex. John picks Tim and Tim must pick John.) Groups of four or more may be split to promote new camper inclusion.

CAMP FACILITIES: At 200 feet, the Oliver Hazard Perry is the first ocean-going full-rigged ship to be built in the U.S. in over 100 years. It is the largest civilian sail training vessel in America. She has berths for 49 people overnight, and with 17 crew, a low camper to crew ratio creates a safe and fun environment. The ship is equipped with a steel hull, 3 masts, with square sails on all three masts, 20 sails totaling 14,000 square feet, and 7 miles of rope and wire. The engines run on a bio-diesel blend, and the ship is equipped with a modern galley (on-board kitchen), central air, an on-deck science lab, a library and wheel-chair accessibility above and below decks.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: With 17 professional crew and a capacity for 30-34 campers, our program promotes a dynamic and safe learning environment with a 2:1 ratio of campers to instructors. Campers will feel the thrill of steering a 500-ton ship, and learn to work the yards and sails while exploring the beautiful coasts of New England. They will learn safety at sea and perform important safety drills while acquiring skills in navigation, seamanship, sail handling, knots, and the language of the boat. Campers will explore the underwater world through snorkeling. They will understand wind, waves, tides and the ecology of sandy and rocky seashores. Sunsets, sunrises and the night sky will serve as the backdrop for this incredible experience, in addition to marine phosphorescence, dolphins and whales. Teamwork is an integral part of success onboard the boat, and in addition to learning about themselves, and achieving things they never imagined, they will make friendships to last a lifetime.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: In addition to witnessing the natural magic of the ocean and its inhabitants, each student crew will make friendships to last a lifetime. Campers will take responsibility for themselves and their fellow shipmates, learning to work as a team with others as they hoist and brace the yards on the ship's 130-foot tall rig and apply acquired navigational skills to guide the ship's course on a voyage of discovery.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: The majority of our camp staff is chosen from graduates of our two year CIT program for students entering 9th and 10th grades. 9th Graders are placed in groups and learn how to manage the campers, the schedule, and the various trials and tribulations of any job. They also take a weekly class with our CIT coordinator. Those CIT's entering 10th grade enjoy added responsibility and leadership opportunities and have a weekly class with the Director of Summer Programs, during which they learn job skills such as resume building, interview skills, and public speaking.

All CIT's receive certifications in CPR, First Aid, and Babysitting through the Red Cross.

FAMILY CAMP SESSION(S): We have several activities for the families as well as for our campers. We have a large camp BBQ at the end of the season that includes food, music, a talent show, and presentations from the the various activities that the campers enjoy everyday (Music, Nature, Soccer, etc.). We also have three "Date Nights", Friday nights during the summer where parents can drop off the kids for the evening and enjoy discounts at local restaurants!

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Founded in 2014 by Austin parents Allan and Heather Staker, Brain Chase is the product of his filmmaking/tech background and her online education expertise. They are both Harvard-educated and their 5 children were the inspiration behind the creation of this revolutionary new summer program

Brain Chase is a 6-week summer learning challenge disguised as a massive global treasure hunt for 2nd−8th graders. A golden globe has been buried somewhere on earth – and it contains the key to a safe deposit box holding a $10,000 college scholarship fund. Participants who complete an hour of online summer learning activities each day will unlock secret animated webisodes that hold the clues to the globe’s whereabouts. Guess the treasure’s location first, and you’ll be the one on a plane to dig it up.

Enrollment is limited to the first 5,000 entrants.
Kickoff is June 30. Last registration July 18.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Debate Camp creates a learning experience that is safe, welcoming, fun, and intellectually-engaging. Our program is meant to appeal to all ability levels, from the reluctant speaker to the already-accomplished debater.

We believe that learning is best served by engaging students in an academic experience, while at the same time ensuring they feel empowered to take risks.

We believe that "camp" creates a novel and secure learning environment in which campers feel safe to try new skills, think on their feet, see the opposing view, and to trust their teammates. Campers repeatedly inform us of how successful their academic experiences are - after Debate Camp, largely because they felt emboldened and confident in their ability to engage in discourse on subjects they felt unsure about only weeks previous. " I learned so much" is the most consistent feedback we get.

We feel that debating is not an elite skill for competition purposes only. Nor is it something that should be oversold / overcharged for the purpose of enhancing the college application process. We believe that to have advocacy skills, an ability with rhetoric, an ability to effectively organize one's thoughts, an ability to listen and be heard and to honour one's opponents with effective points and counter-points, are skills that all kids should develop.

As such, we annually review our fee scale to ensure we remain within reach of as many families as possible. We continue to work on funding and recruitment structures so that we may continue to remove barriers to enrichment education.

Moreover, we remain about training in the area of verbal advocacy; to stand, speak and be heard - an area requiring continued attention at a time when digital means provide so many alternatives to this. In the generation of the smart phone, of potentially less human-to-human conversation over substantial matters, what we teach is even more coveted...

Education has forever operated on a belief in the skills, ability and good intention of the future generation. Debate Camp is honoured to be invested in this work.

AMERICAN CAMPING ASSOCIATION

Debate Camp successfully completed the ACA 18 month accreditation process in 2021. This process included a thorough documentation and policy review of Debate Camp's Operation Manual and training materials. In 2021, an ACA site visitor visited in-person camp locations to observe camp operations and ensure the highest of facility standards at two of our American Debate Camp locations (as exemplars of our program in all regions)

Debate Camp in 2020 was awarded with accreditation status from the provincial division of the CCA - Camping Association of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island [CANSPEI] . This 24 month process, ensured that all operating standards, including overnight camps in Canada are compliant with the highest operating standards; inclusive of an audit of our mission and values.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Debate Camp's intern program is popular among former campers that want to gain camp experience before they are staff age. The intern program is paid and provides interns with the necessary training and great leadership experience for college applications.
