CAMP PROGRAM INFO: OUR PHILOSOPHY

Camp SAY was established with one goal in mind – to provide children who stutter with a highly immersive and accepting summer camp experience that builds self-confidence and helps children develop the vital communication skills they need to fully express themselves without fear, bullying or ridicule.

Complementing our wide range of exciting traditional camp activities, Camp SAY provides each child with unique experiences that challenge them in a safe way, creating a strong sense of achievement and helping them confidently navigate the unique issues that children who stutter face in the everyday world.

STAFF
The staff is dedicated to creating a safe and accepting environment where every child can find their beautiful and unique voice. Approximately 80% of children return to camp. Parents and campers tell us it’s our staff and unique approach that consistently exceed expectations, making Camp SAY such a rewarding and transformative experience.

We provide an excellent Staff-to-Camper Ratio: With Camp’s leadership team, camp counselors, specialized activities staff and more, our staff-to-camper ratio is 1 staff member for every 2-3 campers. In addition, each bunk is staffed at night with at least 2 counselors for an average of 6-10 campers.

Counselors complete a comprehensive training program to support the social, emotional and physical needs of all our campers. Staff development includes leadership training and extensive information about stuttering, camper health and safety, camp philosophy, policies and procedures and much more. Additionally, Specialized Activities Staff is carefully selected based on their skills and expertise.

CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: Tuition and travel are offered on a sliding scale basis so all children can attend Camp SAY. To date, no child has been turned away from Camp SAY due to a family's inability to pay.

FAMILY CAMP SESSION(S): Camp offers Family Day where families visit campers, and in addition to welcoming kids & teens who stutter, we also welcome siblings and friends (ages 8-18).

In addition to the delicious main meals, we provide tasty snacks at key times during the day. Talented Nursing Team: Your child’s safety and well being is our highest priority. Our camp is staffed by a full-time, on-site registered nurse who can properly dispense any family-provided medications and can access medical specialists as needed.

Traveling to Camp SAY: Campers come from all around the country and abroad. We work closely with families to make each child’s trip to Camp SAY as safe and enjoyable as possible. We schedule a chaperoned flight from the southeast to New York City. Children taking individual flights are welcomed at the gate by camp staff. Upon arrival at the airport, camp staff helps navigate baggage claim, arrange check-in for return flights, and board campers on the bus for a fun trip to Camp SAY.

Our Personalized Approach: In order to fully personalize your child’s camp experience, our team obtains detailed preferences in advance of camp from you and your child – from their activities to seemingly small yet important details. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Program: Agape Leaders Institute Summer Debate Camp Series (NY / NJ)

With 11-Locations throughout NY and NJ, Agape Leaders debate courses provide instruction and practice in the art of public speaking, with an emphasis on debate. Course options: 1-week or 7-weekend sessions. Students learn the fundamentals of debate through argument, public speaking, strategic thinking, strategy, and communication style.

Students train to compete in debate tournaments, are taught the skill of case-writing, rebuttals, cross-examination skills, analytical thinking, and philosophy. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: YEA is a unique and inspiring leadership summer camp for youth 12-17 who care about community service, activism and social justice. This week-long sleep-away program is designed to be a fun and transforming experience that builds life-long friendships between youth with similar interests. YEA Camp New York will have two concurrent sessions! One session for teens with a variety of causes, and for the first time ever, a separate session for teens interested in animal activism (and what better location than a Farm Animal Sanctuary!).

Our program also provides a meaningful opportunity for campers to learn more about some of the issues facing our planet and to get inspired and empowered to take action on those issues. Campers choose an issue of importance to them (for example, some have chosen climate change, racism, homophobia, homelessness, animal rights) and at YEA they build the knowledge, skills, confidence, and community to take action on that issue long after camp is over. CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: The majority of our camp staff is chosen from graduates of our two year CIT program for students entering 9th and 10th grades. 9th Graders are placed in groups and learn how to manage the campers, the schedule, and the various trials and tribulations of any job. They also take a weekly class with our CIT coordinator. Those CIT's entering 10th grade enjoy added responsibility and leadership opportunities and have a weekly class with the Director of Summer Programs, during which they learn job skills such as resume building, interview skills, and public speaking.

All CIT's receive certifications in CPR, First Aid, and Babysitting through the Red Cross.

SUMMER CAMP JOBS:
Our summer camp is only as good as the staff it hires. That is why we search the globe for the most experienced and enthusiastic staff members we can find. From England to Australia and California to Maine, our staff consists of about fifteen different nations and over twenty states. Everyone comes together with one goal in mind; to make sure our campers have the best summer of their lives!

We are looking for general counselors, specialist counselors, leadership positions, and support staff for the upcoming summer. General counselors spend the day with their division of campers; guiding, supporting, and supervising them as they go from activity to activity.

As a specialist, you concentrate on a specific area, passing on your knowledge to our campers to ensure they are learning or mastering that skill. The leadership roles we fill each summer range from department heads and group leaders to medical staff and office assistants. Lastly, our support staff members work behind the scenes as kitchen staff, maintenance workers, groundskeepers, and housekeepers to ensure the day to day operations of camp are handled.

Generally, most of our counselors are aged between nineteen and twenty-five, while our leadership staff are over twenty-five and have worked their way up the camp ladder. For a complete list, view our staff positions.

CAMP FACILITIES: Bristol Hills Music Campers live in cabins, rehearse in the dining hall, practice outside (weather permitting) while enjoying nature, have recreation time playing ultimate frisbee, soccer, football, basketball, or swimming. We have 3 brand new bathroom/shower facilities and a huge campfire area. Located in the Bristol Hills, we have the best setting to view spectacular nightly sunsets!

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: This is the 60th Anniversary of Bristol Hills Music Camp. We accept band, orchestra and vocal musicians in grades 7-12 who have a passion for music and want to share it with others like them. We offer a Junior and Senior High Concert Band and Jazz Ensembles, a Junior String Ensemble and full Symphony Orchestra, a Vocal Ensemble, a Junior and Senior High All Camp Chorus, daily music electives, numerous small group ensembles, private lessons, including guitar. We offer recitals each evening with performances from staff, counselors, campers and ensembles. We culminate our week with a concert performance of all major ensembles for parents and friends.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Bristol Hills Music Camp offers a wonderful CIT program to those entering 12th grade and have attended our camp for at least 1 year. CITs are campers given opportunities to mentor with veteran counselors with the chance to demonstrate and hone their leadership skills.

CAMP FACILITIES: Founded in 2001, the JBFC shows hundreds of films each year in our five-screen art house theater and pioneers a unique, hands-on approach to media literacy at our Media Arts Lab across the street. Play, make, and explore with a range of cutting-edge technology in our state-of-the-art production spaces, including a sound stage, recording studio, screening room, editing suites, computer labs, and numerous shooting and production spaces. All sessions are held at the Media Arts Lab with occasional visits to the JBFC Theater just down the street, or into the village with supervision.

Viewing and Doing
Learn about media from the inside out through the JBFC’s Viewing & Doing program! Learn to watch feature films the way a director does (and write reviews!) and explore a different type of media—including animation, film, sound, and gaming—each day. In addition, you’ll participate in film-related challenges and activities as you work together in groups.

On the Set
Time to make a movie! Campers write, direct, film, and edit a short collaborative film in a professional environment. Working in a group, you’ll learn to pitch and develop ideas, storyboard, design light and sound, and edit with Adobe Premiere Pro CC. This filmmaking immersion is an opportunity to see a short project through from concept to completion.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts (www.usdan.com) is the nation�s preeminent not-for- profit summer school of the arts. Now entering its 48th season, Usdan has introduced the arts to more than 60,000 young people, many of them on scholarship. No audition is needed for most courses, just an interest.

CAMP FACILITIES: We have a lake, three swimming pools, large ball fields, a garden and a farm, a playground and separate courts for tennis, basketball, street hockey and volley ball. Our Outdoor Adventure program has special locations for climbing walls, obstacle/rope courses and zip lines. We have a series of individual workshops and studios for dance, music, theater, ceramics, wood, graphics, sculpture, photography, weaving and art.

These provide the opportunity for every child to discover the special satisfactions of creativity. There is a fully equipped indoor gymnastics center and a fencing shed. Special facilities feature excellent instruction in tennis and archery, fencing, track and field. There are also dormitories with bathrooms, where children store their belongings and change clothes. And, of course, there is a kitchen, dining rooms, and a well-equipped infirmary. If it rains, all our workshops, studios and covered facilities allow for continuing programs.

The name Hillcroft comes from "hill" or high location and "croft", the English word for "working farm". CAMP FACILITIES: Summit has approx. 30 traditional wooden cabins with electric and private facilities in each cabin. Our main buildings include our newly refinished dining hall, air-conditioned recreational hall, our medical facility, and a newly built outdoor pavilion. Summit utilizes three A frame buildings for our arts programs, a wilderness treehouse with camp fire area for cookouts, newly resurfaced basketball/tennis courts, high/low ropes course with climbing wall, heated pool, private lake, nature fields with a farm area, martial arts dojo, go-kart track with 3 karts. Summit has a small amphitheatre adjacent to our lake, with a miraculous view of our beautiful setting where we enjoy swimming, canoeing, and riding our banana boats. Our camp resides on a gently rising hillside, thus providing us with the physical basis for our motto, "The Magic on the Hill."

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Summit Camp is a co-ed sleepaway camp for ages 8-19 years with issues of attention: AD/HD, HFA/Asperger’s Disorder, and/or learning differences. Using the frame of a traditional sleepaway camp, we create platforms of success where our campers can experience outcomes such as improved self-esteem, lasting friendships, and increased independence. This is accomplished through a well-orchestrated and expertly staffed backdrop to a largely traditional camp experience- guided challenges, waterfront, adventure course, and more. It is our goal and desire to take our campers from observing peer interactions to engaging in them, to learn and celebrate their own strengths and successes, and to feel a sense of belonging and shared community with those around them while they are with us.

Our Teen Travel program extends the Summit community to provide a safe yet exciting adventure to one of our many attractive national and international destination tours offering 14 day and 19 day excursions. Summit Weekenders provide a youth-group style social retreat for adolescents to have an oasis of independence, enjoyment, and success during the school year months. Regardless of the specific program, Summit provides an expertly staffed, highly structured, and truly fun experience for our youth, and has been doing so since 1969. Summit is accredited by the American Camp Association and takes pride in our long term commitment to and successes in working with special needs youth.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Our Transitions to Adult Living Skills program for youth aged 15-19 provides learning and vocational opportunities for our teens. We also have vocational programs for upper camp including, big brother/big sister, waiter/waitressing, working in a specialty area or as UL assistant, photography, and more. Our SUPER TEEN program focuses on building the executive function and daily living skills OUR kids needs to succeed as independently as possible.

YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: Summit provides weekender programs in metropolitan areas throughout the country which run from Friday evening until Sunday mid-day that provide an oasis of social involvement for our youth. NY/NJ and DC/VA weekenders meet on a monthly basis.

Yoni holds an M.A. in Informal Jewish Education from the Jewish Theological Seminary, and directed the 92nd Street Y’s science and nature day camp for two years, where he garnered rave reviews from campers, parents and staff. CAMP FACILITIES: We have a 61,000 sq.ft. fully air-conditioned recreation facility with a 24,000 sq. ft. main arena and a 12,000 sq.ft. auxiliary gymnasium. The Main Arena has seating for all campers, counselors and parents. We have an on-site indoor Olympic Pool, classrooms, computer lab, arts and crafts section, Drama & Cheer areas, sports courts, Atrium Game area, movie room and private dining room, and camp office.

We have 60 acres of outdoor fields, all weather track, three NCAA fields (soccer, baseball and softball), special field for early childhood campers, and outdoor courts.

We have weekly nationally acclaimed professional entertainment, weekly theme-based activities and events. We have swimming four times a week. CAMP FACILITIES: Camp Henry Day Camp functions out of 301 Henry Street, a community center with multiple multi-function rooms including a state of the art computer lab, a gym and a kitchen. We also access the surrounding athletic fields and courts for our athletic activities.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Summers are for having fun. It's a time to spend with friends. To make memories and share experiences that last a lifetime. That's what Mill Basin Day Camp is all about. Mill Basin Day Camp is dedicated to providing an exciting and fulfilling camp experience for both children and their parents by providing fun, recreational, social and educational activities.

We have grown over the past 15 years to become the most popular summer day camp program for kids in the Brooklyn & Queens areas. At least that’s what the kids tell us.

Our staff consists of professionals, many of whom continue to work in child related fields throughout the year. Our directorial staff is comprised of licensed professionals with many years camp experience. All the group leader staff are trained in CPR and First Aid. Our Aquatics programs are staffed by certified and licensed personnel, as required by the NYC Department of Health and American Red Cross.

Safety is our highest priority at Mill Basin Day Camp. We equip our staff and facility with the latest and most modern safety and technological products in order to maintain constant contact and security both on and off the camp facility. Campers also receive Camp Gear which they use throughout the summer.

Our modern, fully air-conditioned facility offers a wide range of activities for children entering Pre-K thru 9th grade in the upcoming September scholastic year. There are Five (5) individual camp programs. Each camp has its own unique and innovative program that best suits the needs of the varying ages of our campers.

There is Pre-School Camp for kids entering Pre-K and Kindergarten. Adventures Camp is for kids entering grades 1 and 2, Stars Camp entering grades 3, 4 & 5.

For older campers there is Explorers Camp for kids going to grades 6 & 7 and they travel as part weeks doing alot of day trips. Finally, there is Teens Camp for teens going to grades 8 & 9 and they are a travel camp. Each group has various methods for integrating new campers into their groups.

Head Counselors are trained to make sure that all campers are introduced to the other campers and are made to feel part of the group in the first few minutes of the camp day. Directors are also at hand to help new campers make any adjustments that they may need.

The typical camp day begins with a first activity at 9:00 am. There are 3 periods in the morning, then lunch, 3 periods in the afternoon. Activities are both indoor and outdoor and are balanced accordingly. Pre-School dismissal times and activities are a bit different and will be explained at a pre-camp parents meeting for registered families.

We realize and understand the pressures facing today's working parents so we have designed a very flexible registration program. Changing your summer schedule by adding, subtracting or changing weeks is never a problem at any time. If summer school is a worry for you, our program is entirely refundable at any time prior to the first day of camp.

CAMP FACILITIES: At 200 feet, the Oliver Hazard Perry is the first ocean-going full-rigged ship to be built in the U.S. in over 100 years. It is the largest civilian sail training vessel in America. She has berths for 49 people overnight, and with 17 crew, a low camper to crew ratio creates a safe and fun environment. The ship is equipped with a steel hull, 3 masts, with square sails on all three masts, 20 sails totaling 14,000 square feet, and 7 miles of rope and wire. The engines run on a bio-diesel blend, and the ship is equipped with a modern galley (on-board kitchen), central air, an on-deck science lab, a library and wheel-chair accessibility above and below decks.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: With 17 professional crew and a capacity for 30-34 campers, our program promotes a dynamic and safe learning environment with a 2:1 ratio of campers to instructors. Campers will feel the thrill of steering a 500-ton ship, and learn to work the yards and sails while exploring the beautiful coasts of New England. They will learn safety at sea and perform important safety drills while acquiring skills in navigation, seamanship, sail handling, knots, and the language of the boat. Campers will explore the underwater world through snorkeling. They will understand wind, waves, tides and the ecology of sandy and rocky seashores. Sunsets, sunrises and the night sky will serve as the backdrop for this incredible experience, in addition to marine phosphorescence, dolphins and whales. Teamwork is an integral part of success onboard the boat, and in addition to learning about themselves, and achieving things they never imagined, they will make friendships to last a lifetime.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: In addition to witnessing the natural magic of the ocean and its inhabitants, each student crew will make friendships to last a lifetime. Campers will take responsibility for themselves and their fellow shipmates, learning to work as a team with others as they hoist and brace the yards on the ship's 130-foot tall rig and apply acquired navigational skills to guide the ship's course on a voyage of discovery.

Not only will CITs get hands-on leadership experience, they will also attend workshops from Directors and other leaders at camp on a variety of topics such as behavior and risk management, interviewing tips and managing stress – to name a few.

CITs successfully completing the program will be considered for hire in 2016. CIT campers must attend two consecutive weeks. Housing and supervision is not available over the weekend, requiring CITs to return home.

GEORGIA: Camp Shane Georgia’s campus is located at Emmanuel College in northeast Georgia in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. All facilities air-conditioned and it boasts an indoor 9-lane collegiate size pool, Aquatic Center, 4000 Sq.ft. air-conditioned Fitness Center with state of the art wellness equipment, fabulous new dormitories, quad style with one or two campers sharing a bathroom. Minutes from Georgia state parks, river activities, and Lake Hartwell. It's a wonderful place to experience summer fun while learning about nutrition, healthy cooking and fitness.

TEXAS: Camp Shane Texas is set on a lovely 83-acre, beautifully landscaped and wooded campus with attractive and well kept facilities in gorgeous Texas Hill Country setting. Dormitories are modern with custom furniture, granite bathroom counter tops and polished concrete floors. All sport facilities, dorms and classrooms are air conditioned. There is an outdoor classroom, garden, orchard, chicken coop, and miles of nature trails as well as a state-of-the-art weight room, fitness center, multi-purpose room, two gymnasiums and a new indoor swimming pool. Wholesome and nutritious Shane approved healthy menu prepared on-site. We are not a fat camp nor are we a boot camp. We combine all the fun of traditional summer camp with the benefits of weight loss.

WISCONSIN: Camp Shane Wisconsin is set on 80 acres, located off the shore of Lake Michigan. Dorms are newly constructed, modern and fully air-conditioned. There is an extensive, state of the art, multi-million-dollar fitness center and large grass playing fields to run fun fitness activities outdoors. The property also boasts an Olympic size indoor swimming pool – great for water exercise. Week of June 2: Surf & Turf
There is a magical world beneath the ocean’s surface and at its shore. This week campers will explore sea and beach animals, plants, coral reefs, sand dunes and other mysteries of the beach.
Week of June 9: Dinosaur Planet
As we journey back in time this week, campers will dig for fossils, experiment with volcanoes and learn all about the time when dinosaurs ruled the planet.

Week of June 16: Up, Up & Away
It’s a bird! It’s a plane! This week campers look up and learn about all of the amazing things that can take flight – from helicopters to kites and everything in between.
Week of June 23: The Secret Garden
Campers will spend the week learning about planting, growing and harvesting food and flowers and all of the little critters that make a home in our garden.

Week of June 30: I Heart NY
We might be biased, but we think NYC is the best city in the world. Spend the week learning about some of our most iconic landmarks, foods and transportation.
Week of July 7: The Sorcerer’s Apprentice
Magic, cauldrons, wands and spells! Campers will take a journey back to the Middle Ages and combine history with fantasy as we explore wizardry and magic.

Week of July 14: Kids in Space
Campers hop in their rocket ships and take off on a week of exploring our solar system..and beyond!
Week of July 21: Flower Power
Travel back in time to the Love Generation. Bellbottoms, flowers in our hair, tie-dye shirts, and jewelry making. This week campers will be going from Citi to hippie!

Session 5
Week of July 28: Weird Science
There’s chemistry in the kitchen and physics in the sand table. Campers will spend the week using the Scientific Method to answer questions and create a lot of wacky, wild and weird experiments.
Week of August 4: Summer Safari
Join us on a safari through the Africa’s rainforests and plains as campers learn about all of the flora and fauna that thrive in these fascinating habitats.

Session 6
Week of August 11: CitiGallery
This week campers will learn about iconic artists and some of their most important work. Students will then create projects inspired by these greats and unleash their inner artists.
Week of August 18: Fairytales Can Come True
This final week of camp, children will take their favorite fairytales and bring them to life through dramatic play, art projects and storytelling.
